Today we lost the first Newf I ever owned, Koko, Deines's Koko Puff, CGC and an active therapy dog up until the time she passed. Koko was 13 and lived a long and happy life; however it was her time so I had to let her go...She is missed beyond what words can describe...
R.I.P. my sweet and sassy girl...
I stood by your bed last night; I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying; you found it hard to sleep.
I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear,
"It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."
I was close to you at breakfast; I watched you pour the tea.
You were thinking of the many times your hands reached down to me.
I was with you at the shops today; your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels; I wish I could do more.
I was with you at my grave today; you tend it with such care.
I want to reassure you, that I'm not lying there.
I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my paw on you; I smiled and said "It's me."
You looked so very tired and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know that I was standing there.
It's possible for me to be so near you everyday...
To say to you with certainty, "I never went away."
You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew...
In the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.
The day is over...
I smile and watch you yawning and say,
"Goodnight, God bless, I'll see you in the morning.
And when the time is right
For you to cross that brief divide,
I'll rush across to greet you, and we'll stand side by side.
I have so many things to show you; there is so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out...
Then come home to be with me."

The picture below is from Tara Blankenship, Hidden Akers Farm, KY, with her week old pups nursing from her recently purchased "Milk Bar". For more information please see our link. Rescue Update- In 2012 we took in 11 rescues total, 10 of which were Newfoundlands. In all but just a few cases the dogs needed to be brought current on heart worm and flea preventative as well as vaccines, a lot of grooming and many needed treated for various ailments, torn ACL, UTIs, skin issues, etc. Were were able to get all back in to reasonably good shape and find homes for all but one...Our one remaining available girl is posted below. She is a lovely 3 year old Landseer female who has some special needs, but she would still make someone an awesome pet. Anyway I just wanted to share some photos I've received of some of the rescues we took in 2012 who were re-homed with great families and are now living awesome lives thanks to some very special people! Don't they look happy and healthy!
Another great photo of one of our rescues (on the Left) re-homed and apparently very happy with her another Newf friend to play with!
We still have our two permanent rescue residents here with us as well. Both are doing great; though they are both starting to get up in age, but you would never know it! Hunter, the Lab who has now been with us for over 3 years (You can read his story on his page under "Our Others".) and Bria who will have been here 3 years this March. Bria is a 10 year old Newfoundland who was bred by a breeder who no longer bred nor was able to be located when the time came that her family had to give her up due to deployment. We gladly took her in and she has been a much loved pet here ever since. She has a lot to say so anyone who has visited has definitely met and remembers her! She and Hunter are best buddies! Sometimes things just workout!
